Supplements given: 1 tsp of California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First Cold Press) and 1/8 tsp of Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Lemon Flavor
January 31, 2018 – 1st day of fish oil : 1/8 tsp of fish oil given with a tsp of olive oil in the morning bottle. The lemon taste was too strong so he refused to eat the bottle. Tried a few times but he refused to be a team player. I then made a new bottle with just the olive oil and he drank it all. The bottle given to him before nap time was made with baby food, he accepted it this time. The baby food help masked the strong taste. Bowel movements were fine.
February 1, 2018 – 1 tsp of olive oil given in the morning and 1/8 tsp of fish oil given with baby food by spoon. He enjoyed the apples and blueberries puree with the fish oil mixed in. His bowel movements were loose throughout the day but not with a rancid smell so the sitter had to constantly check his diaper throughout the day since he doesn’t show any discomfort when having a dirty diaper.
February 2, 2018 – I decided to give him the fish oil in the first bottle and the olive oil later in the day since the loose diapers continued throughout the night and he woke up this morning soiled. He had to have a baby food bottle but he didn’t mind since he is half asleep and hungry. His bowel movements firmed up a bit but still soft.
February 3, 2018 – 1/8 tsp fish oil in a rice/formula/baby food bottle for breakfast and a tsp of olive oil in the afternoon bottle. I spilled just a little fish oil on my hands and I smell like it no matter how many times I’ve washed my hands today and used Purell. It’s been 12 hours and the smell is still there. Vincent is doing very well on the supplements and we’re starting to notice him being more aware of his surroundings, prolonged eye contact, and more facial expressions.
February 4, 2018 – He woke up around 2:30am with a fever, 102.3. Gave him a Tylenol suppository and he was able to get comfortable, passed back out. When he woke up in the morning, his supplements were combined today into a baby food bottle and he accepted it after a few tries. He’s a little off his game since he’s not feeling well. I’m trying to divide the supplements into two bottles and I know we’ll be starting him on the final supplement in a couple of days. My goal is to have two supplements in one bottle and one supplement in the other bottle. His bowel movements are back to normal, thank God! He is more interactive with his little sister and being more attentive in his ABA sessions.
February 5, 2018 – He woke up this morning babbling “Ba Ba Ba” and when we mimicked him… he repeated and waited for us to do it again! Over the moon is an understatement to how we felt. Tears! Many tears! He accepted his supplements just fine even though he’s a little under the weather. Doctor visit turned up a negative result for flu and strep, but Ella tested positive for the flu.
February 6, 2018 – Vincent is still sick. It always takes him forever to get better. Runny nose, no fever but coughing. He has Ella home with him today to keep him company since they’re both sick. I’m a bit shocked she tested positive for the flu since she has no symptoms, only a slight cough at night. Both were given a flu shot before the school season started. He is still eating, no appetite loss so getting him to take his supplements hasn’t been an issue. He’s having loose stools again but that could be from him being sick.
Summary: Vincent is definitely coming around to accepting new substances in his bottle. He is not a fan of the lemon taste for the fish oil and I don’t blame him. I tried a little in my smoothie and the lemon flavor overpowered the entire taste. As long as I mix it with baby food he will take it. Occasionally loose stools but as long as we check him often, no accidents have occurred. He is terrible during diaper changes, always trying to roll away. Hello! Typical 2 yr old mischievous if you ask me. I just change him on his belly and occupy him with my phone. He is babbling more and saying a new sound, “Ba”. He stopped saying DADA awhile ago and rarely says MAMA or MUM anymore. He’s much better at expressing what he wants with physical prompting/guiding and pointing.
