Supplements given: 1 tsp of California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First Cold Press) 1/8 tsp of Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Lemon Flavor and 1/4 tsp twice a day of NOW Foods Inulin Prebiotic
February 14, 2018 – Today was Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday so we had seafood for dinner. Vincent tried a crabcake for the first time and absolutely loved it! He couldn’t get enough of it. I’m counting this as a “gain” because he is such a picky eater and has recently been more accepting to trying new things. He drank his supplements with no issues, even though it took him a few tries to finish the bottle with fish oil in it. Baby food helps mask the taste of the lemon but not fully.
February 15, 2018 – Today was Grandpa’s birthday so we had St. Josephs for cake. Vincent enjoyed the cream but didn’t want too much of it. Today he was giving amazing eye-contact and played very nicely with his sister. He even played catch with the dog. Lately he is being more interactive with his surroundings. He has been a little whiney and having a few temper tantrums, which I was told is apart of the process in the first month of the protocol.
February 16, 2018 – Our son is extremely playful lately. He always enjoyed playing with us and laughing but we’ve noticed he has been initiating more the past few days the play scenarios. It’s still taking him multiple tries to get the fish oil down. I feel terrible since he is obviously hungry but doesn’t like the taste. I’m hoping eventually he will learn to tolerate it more. He just ends up eating more later in the day. His bowel movements are soft and more frequent than before the protocol. I’ve also notice no matter how many times we clean him, the smell lingers so he gets multiple baths throughout the day.
February 17, 2018 – Today was great day! He is starting to be more vocal. He’s babbling again and gesturing more to express his wants. I pray his words come soon. I’m longing for the day when I hear him say “No”. It’s amazing how these small milestones sometimes get over looked but I’m making sure we celebrate everything! Lots of cheers and hoorays happening over here. Supplements intake was easier today, just two tries to get it down.
February 18, 2018 – Our niece and nephew came for a visit today and Vincent and his sister were loving every second of it. He played so nicely with them and seeks out their attention when they were involved in other activities. He even allowed us to spoon feed him his meals even though he really wanted to be running around. Sunday Funday was truly exactly that! Perfect!
February 19, 2018 – Our little sunshine woke up happy until he had to do his therapy. I feel so bad for his first therapist of the day because he truly is not a morning person. Thankfully Daddy was home with him and I happily was off to work. I need to teach everyone how to give him them so I don’t have to rush in the morning and check-in a bunch of times to see if he drank it all. He did great with his programs and is giving great eye contact with everyone. His speech therapist started the facial massage and using the vibrating toothbrush with the textured edge attachment. He loved the massage but not the vibration.
February 20, 2018 – I had the pleasure of sitting with his speech therapist today to learn how to do the massage on his face and use the vibrating toothbrush with the textured attachment. This is to help him with his low-tone which causes him to drool a lot. He loves to be pampered so any hands on attention, he’s all for. Supplements are now being put into one bottle, first one of the day and thankfully he is so hungry that he drinks the entire bottle with no hesitation. Bowel movements are still frequent but no diarrhea, so I’m not complaining.
Summary: I’m going to increased his inulin from 1/2 tsp a day to a full tsp a day since I’ve read many blogs and articles about increasing the inulin to maximize the awakening stage. We’ve seen many gains with Vincent since starting the protocol but not much with his talking, which is one of my greatest concerns with him. I can tell he is frustrated at times when he is trying to communicate with us but obviously cannot. I don’t want to teach him sign language just yet since I feel this will only prolong his words from coming out. Vincent found a new cartoon on Netflix that he absolutely adores… Thomas The Train! He laughs so much that he eventually goes into a silent laughter until he catches his breath. It’s truly one of the best moments this week.
