Week 3

Supplements given: 1 tsp of California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First Cold Press) 1/8 tsp of Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Lemon Flavor and 1/4 tsp twice a day of NOW Foods Inulin Prebiotic

February 7, 2018 – Today I introduced the Inulin into his morning bottle with the olive oil since it’s a formula bottle and gave him the fish oil in his nighttime bottle with baby food. He accepted it since it didn’t change the taste. Vincent is improving with his spoon-feeding and getting more curious about other food items. He has gone back to mouthing a lot but that has to do with him not having his OT on a regular basis but we finally found a new OT so I’m hoping to see the mouthing of object to stop or at least slow down. He is giving unbelievable eye contact. I swear it’s like he sees into my soul with his intense looks at me and when he smile… OMG!!! my heart literally skips a beat! Today was a good day. Still sick but like I said before, it takes him a while to improve. He’s on his 3rd day of medication so he will be on the mend in no time.Portrait of a two years old child sitting at the table

February 8, 2018 – Gave him the supplements in the same way as the day before. No issues. He is doing well with his ABA therapists, loves playing with his blocks and is even clapping up a storm every chance he gets. He recently learned how to do this and now thinks it’s the next best thing to cuddles with his mama. He claps after he’s done eating and even wakes up clapping. It’s the little things that count the most and we sometimes overlook. Even though this journey is difficult for him and us, it’s also extremely rewarding to watch him gain a new skill. He stopped throwing his bottle! Instead he now walks it over to us to let us know he is finished with it. Just in time for the new couch to arrive. Mama thanks you my little prince! I spoke with his speech therapist about working with him more on his sounds and possible oral prompting. I love that we’re on the same page with his treatment.

February 9, 2018 – It’s like I have a new baby! He is more aware of his surroundings, and of us. I took him on a playdate and he actually went out of his way to play with the other kids. This a first!!!!! He usually plays with us or his sister, but for him to play with other children, is huge! Hence all the exclamation points. I want to express my excitement because I can’t hold it in. He’s 25 months today! Our little boy is growing up and making gains every day. I just can’t wait to hear his true voice. Supplements were accepted just fine today. No issues with bowel movements.

February 10, 2018 – Today we decided to take the kids to Toys”R”Us to walk around and play with the toys. We were hoping something would catch Vincent’s eye as he explored the store. He loved the open space and ran up and down all the aisles playing with every toy that piqued his interest. You’re probably thinking this is the behavior of a typical 2 year old and you’re right! But, 6 months ago, heck 3 months ago we were unable to take him to the store, have him hold our hand to walk or even listen to us when we called his name. Truly this gain comes from his amazing ABA Therapist from Thursdays Child. These ladies have made great progress with Vincent in the past 6 months. Sure he still has a long road ahead of him but every step forward is one step closer to him being his true self. Today’s supplements were given in two bottles, breakfast and nap-time. He accepted all the supplements with no issues and bowel movements have been softer than usual but thankfully not diarrhea. He extremely playful with the dog and looks to play with his new Thomas The Train that he picked out today from Toys”R”Us.

February 11, 2018 – Today I will give him the inulin twice a day in his bottle and hoped it wouldn’t affect his bowel movements too much. All day he had regular bowel movements which I contribute to the amount of the olive oil given. I know inulin can sometimes cause constipation but thankfully its smooth sailing over here! He accepted all his supplements today with minimal issues and even fed himself pieces of a muffin. It’s all about the baby steps so I will take an gains as a positive sign. Today was a lazy rainy Sunday so lots of cuddling and Disney channel today.

February 12, 2018 – Ahhh Mondays! So hectic to get back into the week after a relaxing weekend, but the cycle begins again. He is truly a team player even though we have to wake him up for his first session. I’m off to work and the Hubby is home with him so I gave him his morning supplements with the breakfast bottle and before he went to bed I gave him the fish oil with the second dose of inulin. It takes him about 3 tries to get the bottle down since the lemon taste is so strong. We then continued on with our nightly ritual of his bath, playing, snuggles and tickles. He loves to play with his sister and has improved with waiting his turn.

February 13, 2018 – Today was a good day even though he is still under the weather. We limited his milk bottles to one a day to help with the mucus, runny nose and coughing. He ate baby food throughout the rest of the day. He is still accepting the supplements but does give us a hard time with the fish oil at night if the bottle isn’t warm. Our son is extremely picky, if you haven’t noticed already. He’s laughing more and expressing more of his wants with physical prompting.

Summary: This week was a lot of trial and error with getting the supplements down. He ultimately accepts them but it might take a few tries. His feeding has been moving in the right direction but still going very slowly. It all depends on his mood. He ultimately enjoys his food but still tries to control his intake of it. We love that he doesn’t throw his bottle anymore when finished with it. He actually holds it up and says sounds to get our attention or walks it over to us. He has become more exploratory when using the iPad, especially with Netflix.
