Supplement given: 1 tsp of California Olive Ranch Extra Virgin Olive Oil (First Cold Press)
January 24, 2018 – 1st day of the protocol: I gave my son the extra virgin olive oil recommended by Dr. Nemechek. The book mentions to give the child 1/8 to 1/4 tsp daily and to cook with the olive oil. Since he doesn’t eat enough table food and mainly drinks from a bottle, I gave him 1tsp of it in his morning bottle. He had no negative side effects from the oil, but did not enjoy the taste as much. I found it’s always best to start slow with any new supplements, so I will give him the olive oil once a day for a week.
January 25, 2018 – 2nd day with the olive oil in his bottle, 1tsp. He tolerates it better than yesterday but still not a fan. Hoping as the days go on he will accept it more willingly.
January 26, 2018 – The day was pretty hectic so I gave him the olive oil in his nighttime bottle to see if he will tolerate it better. He drank most of it but unfortunately didn’t finish the bottle. Back to the morning bottles going forward.
January 27, 2018 – He woke up babbling and extra happy. I’m not saying it’s from the olive oil but being that this is uncharted territory for us, we will take any positive feedback as a good sign. Gave him 1 tsp of olive oil in his morning bottle. Tolerating it more, but I noticed very loose bowel movements throughout the day.
January 28, 2018 – Thankfully the loose bowel movements have stopped. His diapers can clear a room usually, but I’ve noticed the smell not being as rancid. His whole life (2 yrs) he was on Gerber Rice Cereal with Probiotics & DHA since he had issues with gas and certain formulas. This cereal was a godsend when it came to settling his stomach and colic issues. Highly recommend it. But, Since being off the probiotic and now eating the regular Gerber Rice Cereal, I’ve notice he is still able to pass his bowel movements with no issues. Accepting the olive oil as long as it’s mixed in well with his Toddler Similiac Sensitive Formula and Gerber Rice Cereal.
January 29, 2018 – My husband made the morning bottle this morning and didn’t know what to put in for the olive oil so I tried to give it to him by syringe. He hated it and tried to spit it out, but ultimately accepting it. He cried for a while afterwards and then went to do his ABA lessons. I will NOT try the syringe again.
January 30, 2018 – Completing the first week of olive oil, it was not a bad transition at all. His bowel movements are regular and he is tolerating the taste.
Summary: Vincent doesn’t really care for the taste of many things so getting him to tolerate olive oil in his bottle was definitely all about trial and error. I’m sure I will continue to have ups and downs with him since he is such a picky eater. We’ve noticed him being more alert and attentive to his ABA programs.
